Edward Skipperton is a wealthy, hard-working businessman presently recovering from a recent divorce and quintuple bypass open-heart surgery. He is living in and renovating a beautiful old chateau in the Normandy region of France but has become determined to buy up the surrounding lands and river owned by Hubert De Gastine, his neighbor.
