The Trans-Utopian's collision with a mine leaves the ship vulnerable to attack. Percy, un­ happy with Caravaggio's recent crisis performance, creates a female Al program with more intuition, called Kate. The problem is Kate quickly develops too much independence and an attraction to Travis.
